Entry Requirement

  • Passed Peperiksaan Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM)/ Sijil Pelajaran   Malaysia Vokasional (SPMV) and obtained (3) subjects with credits including science subject.
    Or;
  • Obtained Certificate in Aquaculture/ Agriculture/ Veterinar from public higher learning Institutions (IPTA) or Private higher institutions (IPTS) accredited by the Government (IPTS) with a minimum of CGPA 2.00
    Or;
  • Have 5 years working experience in Aquaculture Industry and passed Peperiksaan Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) / Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia Vokasional (SPMV).

Principles of Aquaculture

This course teaches students on why aquaculture is importance for fish productions and on the history of aquaculture. Site Selection and species selection suitable for aquaculture will be discussed. Design and construction of aquaculture facilities will be discussed briefly. Nutrition and feed, fish diseases, and harvesting and post harvesting techniques will be taught in this course.

Principles of Microbiology

Having knowledge in Microbiology and Application of microbe in the research of biotechnology. This subject will provide students with a necessary knowledge of the microbial metabolism, respiration, fermentation, photosynthesis, and microbial growth. The purpose of this subject to develop knowledge of microbiology by focusing on the microbial diseases, environmental microbiology and industrial microbiology.

Biology Of Aquaculture Organisms

Having knowledge in biology of fish, bivalve, mollusk, microalgae, zooplankton and seaweed. This subject will provide students with a necessary knowledge of the biological principals of aquaculture and to develop the ability to apply knowledge in the development of animal husbandry skills. The purpose of this subject is to develop knowledge of biological concepts by focusing on physiological processes of aquatic animals.

This subject provides basic knowledge on fry production in aquaculture, current status, scope and technique involves in aquaculture production. The need of Fry production and its development in future.

This subject exposes student in area of water quality restraints and management in aquaculture and the importance of its. In Order to achieve that, water quality management input as water quality deteriorates correction; water treatment methods and maintaining of water quality are within this subject. Aquaculture Engineering

This course teaches students on how water is transported through pipes from its source to the aquaculture facilities. They will be exposed on how to check water quality and how to treat water supply. Different types of water enclosure for aquaculture will also be taught. Planning, designing, and constructing aquaculture facilities will be discussed.

Fish Disease

This subject provides knowledge on fish health, water preparation for fish breeding and nutrient needed by aquatic organism. Besides, student will be exposed to the disease infecting organism and minor dissection involved. Morphology screening for parasite, bacteria, fungi and viruses will also be learnt. Student will also be taught about unspecific disease infecting aquatic organism cause by food consumption, chemical and also environment

Nutrition of Aquatic Organism

This subject will exposed the students to nutrition and energy needs by aquatic organisms. Students will be equipped with the knowledge of variety of food, feeding adaptation and source of nutrition such as protein, amino acid, carbohydrate and others. Feeding habit and food utilization of aquatic organism will also be learnt by the students.

This subject provides students with a necessary knowledge of microalgae through the cultivation, harvesting and processing. The purpose of this subject is to develop knowledge of biological algae by focusing on biotechnology and many technology details must be improved.

Hatchery and Grow Out Facilities

This subject will expose students to the various aspects of hatchery system that are used in aquaculture. These systems are for the rearing of not only fish but for bivalves and crustaceans as well. In addition, students are also exposed to the grow out facilities needed for these different types of aquaculture products.

Ornamental Fish Culture

This course teaches the status of local and international aquarium industry. It will equip the students with knowledge on pond design and construction, and the preparation of pond for culturing ornamental fish. Techniques on breeding ornamental fish will also be taught. Topics on water quality requirement and control and treatment of diseases will be discussed. Marketing plan and strategy will also be taught.

This subject provides an introduction to crustacean culture and its benefits. It describes various aspects such as the crustacean history, characteristics, current trends and culture methods for crustacean culture.

Post-Harvest Technology

This subject provides an introduction to post harvest technology in aquaculture and its benefits. It discuss various aspects of post-harvest technology such as nutritive value of fish, concept of freshness, concept of quality, hygiene and sanitation, fish spoilage, traditional and modern methods of fish preservation (drying, salting, fermentation, smoking, canning, ice storage, cold storage, freezing). Convenient fish food, quality control of fish and fishery products, Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point System in quality control of fishery products.

Aquatic Plant Culture

This Course teaches the importance of aquatic plant in the aquatic system, ecosystem as well as in the aquarium industry. Students will be equipped with the knowledge in identification of various aquatic plant species. Students will also understand the fundamental requirements of aquatic plant species, such as sediment substrate, light, fertilization and water quality. The various techniques of propagation and cultivation of these aquatic plants will also be discussed.

Management of Aquaculture System

This subject will expose the students to factors that should be considered for the management of a system for culturing aquatic organisms. It addresses the fundamental principles and concepts rather than describing how to grow a particular species. Thus, students will be able to manage a system of culturing any aquatic species.

Ecosystems for aquaculture

This subject will expose the students to the different ecosystems where aquaculture could be practiced. These include the lakes, rivers, coastal areas and marine ecosystems. With this knowledge, students will be able to differentiate the various aspects of aquaculture techniques in the different ecosystems of the environment.

Expected Salary:

  • Public Sector: Basic starting monthly salary is around RM1,250; plus allowances (such as housing and entertainment) the total can amount to around RM2,100.
  • Private Sector: The amount of basic starting monthly salary can vary from the above amount. However, the total amount of monthly salary earned (inclusive of allowances) is subject to negotiation and which can be higher than that earned in the public sector.
