Before the emergence of this faculty, Faculty of Education & Social Sciences (FESS) is formerly known as the Faculty of Education & Language Studies (FELS) as well as the Faculty of Social Sciences & Industrial Studies (FSSIS) offering programmes related to the Education and Social Sciences Industries. At present, this faculty has 4 Professors, 6 Associate Professors, 77 Lecturers, and 2 Assistant Registrar, with 9 supporting staff under its wing. This number does not include part-time lecturers whose assistance is much needed by the faculty. FESS is currently housing a total of 3000 students undertaking programmes: Foundation for B. Ed. TESL, Diploma in TESL, Diploma in Education (Preschool), Diploma in Education (Islamic Studies), Diploma in Library Science, Bachelor of Education TESL, Bachelor of Education Pre-School, Bachelor in Library Science, Bachelor of Education in Islamic Studies, Bachelor of Science in Psychology Industry, 4 Master Programmes, and 3 Doctorate Programmes.

The faculty started as one of the pioneer faculties in UNISEL with the first intake of 93 students from the Malaysian Ministry of Health for Bachelor of Health Sciences, and then, followed by 100 students for the B. Ed (TESL) programme. For being a newly merged faculty, our strengths basically rest on the experienced and qualified academic staff that UNISEL obtained from strategic and systematic planning and the commitment provided by the UNISEL Board. Throughout a short span of 10 years, this faculty has attained approvals in offering accredited and recognised programmes.

To develop quality human capital who are effective and respected through education, language and social sciences in achieving social and economic mobility of the nation.

In line with the VISION and MISSION, the Faculty’s Goals are:

Falsafah dan Pendidikan Awal Kanak-Kanak

Memberi pendedahan dan penjelasan kepada pelajar mengenai dasar-dasar pemikiran falsafah terutamanya yang berkaitan dengan pendidikan awal kanak-kanak. Pelajar juga akan mengetahuwi teori, pandangan, pengajaran ahli falsafah berkaitan pendidikan. Pengetahuan ilmuan ini membolehkan mereka memanfaat dan mengaplikasikan dalam pengajaran dan pembelajaran iaitu dengan cara mendidik mengikut lunas-lunas yang sempurna, dan bermakna mengikut perkembangan menyeluruh kanak-kanak.

Pengantar Pedagogi

Kursus ini mendedahkan pelajar pengetahuan bidang kursus-kursus dipelajari untuk diaplikasi dalam pengajaran pembelajaran mengikut prinsip dan pendekatan pendidikan kanak-kanak secara betul. Penekanan kursus ini akhirnya akan membolehkan pelajar mengaplikasi kemahiran profesionalisme mereka dalam pengajaran pembelajaran secara kreatif , inovatif, dengan sempurna dan berkesan kepada kanak-kanak prasekolah.

Pengajaran Mikro

Kursus ini membolehkan pelajar mempraktikan pengetahuan bidang kursus Pengantar Pedagogi. Mereka dilatih cara mengajar mengikut pendekatan dan kaedah berkesan berdasarkan sembilan kemahiran-kemahiran mengajar mengikut prinsip dan dislplin penyampaian ilmu pengetahuan kepada kana-kanak prasekolah secara berkesan. Aktiviti ini merupakan simulasi bagi membolehkan mereka melatih dan menilai kemahiran mereka mengajar bersama rakan dan pensyarah pembimbing. Pengetahuan dan pengalaman ini akan memudahkan mereka menjalani pratikum di sekolah dalam situasi bilik darjah yang sebenar.

  1. Public Sector: Basic starting monthly salary for Diploma holder is around RM1,250; plus allowances (such as housing and entertainment) the total can amount to around RM2,100.
  2. Private Sector: The amount of basic starting monthly salary can vary from the above amount. However, the total amount of monthly salary earned (inclusive of allowances) is subject to negotiation and which can be higher than that earned in the public sector.
